My friend’s dad just gave me about 20 shrimp from his office tank... they’ve been in my tank for about 1week (8 gallons, cycled for 2months) and they seem to be doing okay but I have no idea what they are.. the only species of fw shrimp I know are rcs and crs, but these kind of look different from both of them. Could anyone please help me identify????

They look almost like RilI shrimp, but I couldn't say for sure.

Here is a link to a photo of a type of rilI shrimp

:

They're a mutation of red cherry shrimps.

Those are red Rilis; interesting green spot they have.

Oh yay at least someone else thinks so!
RilI come in a variety of patterns and colors. Since it's a mutation within neocardinia species, you can get some really stunning shrimps depending on the parentage. The ones you have are fabulous. I'm jealous. LOL.

If you provide enough coverage and food, they'll breed readily, so you could have many more if you decided to set up a small breeding tank

Low grade or not, they're still really lovely. I wish there was someone who sold those near me. I would imagine they'd be really easy to care for being mutations of red cherry shrimps. Take good care and they should breed easily.

They actually already did breed! I had a pregnant female in there that gave birth about two days ago and I noticed two more females carrying eggs today. I guess they like their new tank!
