Can Anyone Suggest Any Interesting Inverts...

For my 2 gallon planted jar?

Preferably something I can get in egg form? Is that even possible? I live in rural Newfoundland and it isn't easy for me to get live animals.

I looked into triops and they look so cool but I don't think they're recommended for planted tanks. What about "sea monkeys". I think they're fairy shrimp? Would they live and breed in a tank or are they just a short lived thing? Would they be happy without a heater if the room is consistently 20C?

Are they any other optics?

Thanks!

Sea monkeys are brine shrimp, and can be bred in your tank. They don't need a heater, but I think they need something some heat source like a light bulb for them to hatch.

Thanks

I re-googled them and remembered they're brine shrimp. Haha! I'm guessing that means they need a little salt in the water. Hopefully that wouldn't affect the plants.

Off to read more!

Snails will be fine, then shrimp after about a month.

I had triops as a kid, would reccomend!

Also, you could happily have a small species of regular shrimp such as rcs

Triops die off and then you need to dry out the eggs, right?

I would love regular shrimp but they are very hard to get where I live. There are no over night delivery services that come here.

In addition to what you've already mentioned Daphnia, seed shrimp & copepods can all be purchased as dried eggs.

Thanks! What would be the most interesting to have for company in my studio while I work?

I also saw that someone mentioned keeping hydra. How would one even get hydra? The only time I had some was when it came in on a plant.

Hydra are really cool and I definitely suggest you get them. The best place to get them would be a biological supply company, most likely, as they are considered a pest in aquariums so most people try specifically not to have them.

I've thought of doing a hydra jar myself. It would be interesting to see how long it could be kept going.

Thanks! I think it was your post somewhere here that mentioned hydra and got me thinking about them or other inverts.

My original plan for this jar was shrimp and then a snail instead. I got the snail but had to put it in my 60 gallon tank because the jar wasn't fully cycled when I got it. Now I don't want to take Gary out of the big tank! Haha! He's so much fun to watch motoring around the tank. He's so pretty too! He's a "red onion" nerite.

I would absolutely love to have rcs or another colour variety but I don't know how I can get them. I can't get them shipped to me. :'( Well, I can if I want to spend $65 on shipping alone.

I will check into hydra. They were pretty cool to watch when I had them before.
