Hello, I know this is not the right place for this thread so moderators feel free to move. I didn't know where to place this thread. Here it goes, I have a new 125 gal and my husband is going to be building the stand. My husband who is a cabinet man does great work but he wants to make sure the stand is going to hold up being it will be supporting a lot of weight. So what I was wanting is for anyone to share their stories about any stands you have built or had built for you. I just want to make sure it is going to be able to handle a 125. Thank you all!

I have not built one myself yet but I do want to build one for my 50 gallon tank from what I've learned here at this site a 90 gallon is about 1050 pounds they may be taking into account that you won't have 100 gallons of water in there. Decorations and substrate will take some up. Water weighs roughly 8.35 pounds per gallon of freshwater. A bit more for salt water depending on the gravity if I'm not mistaken.

90 gallons of water weighs roughly 750 pounds take that into account when building a stand. From what I've been told by a guy who has been contracting for years is, all it takes is getting some two by fours and plywood to the measurements to your tank and you're good to go if you know how to build stuff. I was told if it's done right you could put a truck on the stand and it wouldn't break. Maybe someone can verify this I'm just giving my two cents trying to pay it forward from all the helpful people on here that helped me. Hope that gives you some idea of what you need.

Nick

Edit.

I Just re read and realized it would be a 125 gallon which is about 1400 pounds but regardless from what I was told if it's built right with those supplies ( Plywood two by fours and screws, maybe some PL glue for all kinds it's given the nickname bulldog grip for some extra support when you put the screws in. That it could hold a ford pickup truck which exceeds 1400 easy.

Thanks nick for your reply. My husband did go this past weekend and bought some plywood and 2x4's so hopefully it will all work out in the end. we have never had a tank this big and it is just a little intemidating to us I believe. I think once it is built and we see it is stable, we will feel better about it. Thanks again!

Wish you the best of luck; it sounds like your husband knows what he's doing though especially if he's built cabinets before. The link Ken sent is amazingly helpful I think it will help you greatly hope we get to see pictures when it's done!!
