Can amano/ghost shrimp eat guppies?

I'm setting a new tank, I cycled the tank and added a few snails. Today I went to my LFS to buy some guppies and a few plants, and in the bag of the plants, I found some snails (as usual) and a shrimp. I really can't identify the shrimp but I'm almost certain it's an amano shrimp.

In the past, I've heard that amano preyed on fry and small fish. But I really don't know anything about shrimp, so I'm just guessing.

Is it fine to leave the amano in the tank or should I return him to my LFS asap??

No, amano shrimp don't eat fish unless they fish is dead. It should be fine.

They only eat dead fish. I will add that they eat biofilm and algae so if your tank is newly set up you will likely starve it.

I have seen a ghost shrimp snatch an Endler fry once. I assume the fry was weak. But otherwise, newp.

What a shame…
My tank has been cycled and set up for almost 2 weeks and I feed an invertebrates food to the snails (high in calcium) maybe he could eat the instead

Amanos will eat some fish food from the bottom, but training them to eat left over food often causes them to ignore algae. It is kind of like giving a kid dessert for a long time and then telling them to eat Brussel sprouts.

I second this. Mine seem to only exclusively eat fish food that drops their way or gets stuck on a plant leaf. Maybe the occasional piece of spinach but they aren't interested it seems in algae anymore.

Pretty sure though that the two of them feasted on a glowlight that died overnight.
