Can a figure 8 puffer be in freshwater???

I'm planning on getting a figure eight puffer and I heard that use a brackish water with low saltwater content of 1.005-1.008. can I use freshwater and if I do how long will they live?

I'm pretty sure they can live In Freshwater but if you want them to thrive brakish is the way to go.

They can live for awhile in freshwater, that is how most stores sell them. But they need to be kept in brackish water. 1.005 to 1.015 is fine.

They are brackish fish. Plus the salt helps with their immune systems, on top of Ich not being able to survive in salt...double win. What's the plan for this tank?
