Can a canister connect to bulkheads at the top?

AggressiveBill

I was given a 90 that has 2 bulkheads located in the back about 4 1/2” from the top. I would like to put my FX4 to the bulkheads instead of plugging them up. Can I put a strainer right into the bulkhead for the intake or does it be piped to 3” or so off the substrate? I’ve looked all over for this specific set up and cannot find any answers. I plan on making a spray bar out of the return bulkhead. I didn’t know if this would a) create the proper flow needed and b) provide the proper placement for filtration being that the intake would be at the top of the tank.

Yes

I have a 48 gallon tank just like that. You need bulkhead fittings. I pull the water from the top like yours. I use a foam prefilter on the intake. You will just need to keep the water level above the intake.

Sweet. Thanks. I appreciate it.
