Can a Blood Red Parrot (The Hybrid) be kept in a 55g tank?

I know some people are against them because they are a deformed hybrid, and I am definitely against the ones that get tattooed, but I always feel bad for them in the pet stores and think they are adorable. I am working on getting my 55 gallon set up (after a slight catastrophe which you can read about here: ) and it is making me rethink my stock now that I don't have any of the smaller fish. In the pet stores they are always crammed in the tiny tanks, at the last pet store I was at they had them in with the aggressive cichlids and it was just so sad since I know they are generally peaceful.

Anyway, now that my rambling is over, would it be possible to keep a Blood Red Parrot in a 55 gallon with say 2 Angelfish and a school/Shoal of 5-6 Boseman's Rainbowfish?

There's nothing wrong with owning Blood Parrots. Although I do suggest avoiding the dyed and tattood ones. Many people here on the forum have them.

I think you'd be ok with one BP. They live a long time so be prepared for that.

BP's can be kept with angelfish but I personnaly have not done it so can not offer much advice on it.

I would however add the BP's last if you do not get get all your fish at one time because they can be bully's. They can not close their mouths so can't do much damage but they can be territorial.

The rainbows would also be fine.

I've got an Angel with 2 BP's, I haven't had any issues. My BP's are very aggressive eaters. I feed all over the tank to make sure that everybody gets food.

BP's tend to be very shy when you first get them. It took what felt like a very long time for them to warm up. Now they're lively and beg for food all the time.

My BP's are very aggressive eaters

That is an understatment LOL. I use to feed my plecos some algae wafers during the day when I had them in my 30 gallon tank. when I put all my fish in my 110 together I didn't think anything and dropped some wafers in for the algae eaters.
My biggest blood parrot would not let any other fish anywhere close to the wafer. it was too big for her to eat but she guarded it.

So I thought I would drop another one on the other side of the tank so my plecos could get it. She sucked the wafer up she had holding it to her face and swam over and dropped it right at the other algae wafer and guarded them both. lol

She slowly ate them as they got softer. They are very aggressive eaters

Mine will jump out of the water to grab earth worms from me

When I feed frozen foods, I use a little cup that bettas come in, to thaw the food in some tank water. Then I just dip the cup into the water. As soon as that cup hits the water, they ram it at top speed. It's kinda funny.

I have 2 BPs in a 55 gallon that will soon be all theirs. When they're breeding I see aggression w/ the other fish. Other than the aggression I hardly ever see them, still very shy. Mama fish hangs in her cave and daddy hides out, lately in the plants.

I have kept 2 BP's in a 55 gallon with rainbow cichlids and had no problem. 3 or more, I would suggest a 75 gallon minimum.
