Can A 40 Gallon Breeder Sit On The Floor?

My apologies if I'm posting in the wrong area I'm still new to this haha. I was given a baby fancy goldfish a few months ago and he's been living in a 10 gallon tank. I know goldfish need bigger tanks so I'm going to upgrade it soon since he's starting to grow pretty fast. I have a 40 gallon breeder I got for Christmas a few years ago for my hermit crabs who have sadly passed on after we had heating problems this winter and it got too cold for them. My question is can this sit on my floor? I don't have a stand for it and it's currently on my bedroom floor with about 150 pounds of sand and it's doing fine but I know water is heavy. Should I only fill it like 3/4 full so it's lighter or should I try to put something between it and then floor? Or do you think it will be okay? I have carpet, idk if that info is important or not

Well RIP to your carpet. The weight will squish your carpet, keep in mind you have more chances of splashing water on it to. Whats the difference of being on a stand and near the floor. The floor won't collapse. As long as your floor is not heated!

Make sure it can hold that much water before you fill it, that it is an aquarium and not a terrarium or just a reptile tank (reptile tanks have thinner glass, so will only hold half a full tank of water). I would get a piece of plywood to put under it just to keep your carpet evenly flattened, that way when you are able to build or buy a stand for the tank you can vacuum the carpet back to its normal state faster.

Yeah it's an aquarium meant for fish. I'll put a piece of plywood under it that sounds like a good idea. Thank you!

I would also get a second fancy goldfish. They do better in pairs. 40G should be good for 2 with a good filter.

I was thinking about getting one or two more after I moved up to the bigger tank but for now I'd be scared to put two in a 10 gallon

Totally, wait until you have the 40G set up. 3 should also be fine in a 40G, but I'd do bigger weekly water changes in that case.

Yeah, when you get the 40 gal set up I’d get another one. Mine love each other’s company and they are very social fish. Within a few days they realized that I’m the one who feeds them, so every time I walk in the room where their tank is they swim up to the glass and “greet me.”

Unless you have a pump it will also be harder to get a siphon going to drain the tank

You will be more than fine. As CanadianFishFan said your floor is not going to collapse.
