Calling All Uk Fish Keepers!

Hi!

We are far and few among this site.. and I'm curious to know who you are! It's always a nice surprise to bump into one of you, so I thought maybe we should create our own space (and in doing so it makes buy/sell/trade an option for all of us looking to share with the UK community)

Where abouts are you from? And what fish are you keeping?

I'll start;
I'm in Chertsey, Surrey, to the west of London, and I'm currently only keeping 2 guppies, but I'm in the process of setting up a 10 gallon for a trio of dwarf puffers.

Here are my guppies called Diablo (red) and Pixie (yellow)

Woah that's a gorgeous tank!!! I'm really hoping to expand my fishy horizons but at the moment I'm a student, not even an adult yet, and so I'm living at home by my parents rules I hope your catfish are ok..

Thank you, it's changed a bit since that pic & I have more plants, it looks like a real jungle now.
Know what you mean, I'm 64 but I still have to live by my wife's rules, I wanted a 6 foot tank but had to settle for a 5 foot as she who must be obeyed said 6 foot was too big.

I'm Canadian but live in North Yorkshire. Have a 7month old 30 gallon corner community tank. 4 mountain minnows, 4 dannios, 6 platy, 5 black cory, 3 tiger barbs, two shrimp, a tigerstriped nerite snail and several pest snails. I bought this set up for my fella who promptly started working away and lost interest (in the fish) Found out I'm a fish person, who knew? My house, my rules....kids now concerned I'm spending more on the fish than them for Christmas...might be a legitimate concern. Nice to meet more local folk!

Yeah thing is plants are expensive so I'm going to wait a few months and
propagate the plants in my 10 gallon and 20 gallon and once I've got plenty I'm going to plant them in my 38g tank then hopefully it won't be as noticeable

good thinkin batman! I let mine get quite tatty before replacing. they don't touch the anubias or swords so far though, so that keeps the rest of the tank not looking too bad. I really love some of the full and leafy tanks I have seen on this site. Still learning, but going to get there one day

Yeah me as well I'm a bit limited tho with having sand but I love the look of white sand in tanks I have to get hardy plants like java fern moss anubias ext I could get rid of my feather fin but he/She was my first fish and he's really active and fun to watch and he's huge!

Hi, I'm in Warwickshire.
Its good to know there's more of us!
Just got 20l cube with
A Betta, few celestial pearl danio, blue velvet shrimp and red racer nerite snail.
Also culture daphnia if it counts?
Used to have more larger tanks years ago and trying not to disobey the boss and get back to it with a discus tank, the current plan is to gradually add minI tanks to the house until she blows, then offer to compromise for one big tank - wish me luck.

I may have some blue velvet shrimp to share in the future?

Heya, Essex here!
Great to meet some more UK fishkeepers

I have a 130L (35 US Gal) planted tank which is a south american setup containing angels, tetra, corydoras etc
and a 22L (5.8 US Gal) nano tank which is still being planned out (though thinking of going for some thaI micro crabs and other such tiny morsels)

Oooohh I've always been so interested in micro crabs and shrimp! I have a side project of building a nano (1l) shrimp ecosystem in a bottle! I currently have seed shrimp and some freshwater shrimp in there (along with tiny snails, nematodes, and other tiny inverts) but I'm hoping to add a pair of red cherry shrimp soon

the ThaI Micro Crabs are something I've been thinking about for a long time, because I have kept red crabs before but they are real escape artists, thaI micro crabs are meant to be a fully aquatic species so I figured why not dabble in the world of the adorable lil fellas
That shrimp habitat sounds fantastic! Can't wait to see it when it's finished )

Thank you!
I am tackling a bit of a hair algae bloom right now, maintenance today was a bit more long-winded removing all my carbon and finding good substitutes while I dose anti-algae.
I adore your planted tank, your angels are gorgeous!

They are so graceful, I know how you feel there. My planted tank I designed around the angels (sort of what I had in mind when planning it) as I fell absolutely head over heels in love with the four I have and their shimmering pattern of silver with black.
I'll give a pass on the crickets though

I would love my main tank to look like yours but my plants just get munched on once I've propagate enough plants from my other tanks hopefully it won't be as noticeable ive just bought 3 new plants on eBay so hopefully in about 6 months I'll have enough plants to put in my main tank and if he munche on a few it won't be to bad

If I can come up with an idea for it haha!
I have so many sketches done trying to plan out how I want to scape it, I am fairly certain I want to go through with an asian setup; will keep you posted! The filter for it and the lights etc arrive tomorrow so I am excited to spend my day off getting things all measured out, got pre-setup excitement!
