75 Gallon Tank c/sa cichlids

soooo, in a few months, if things go as planned, I'll be moving and/or giving away, my fish in the 75 gallon to a larger tank.

that would leave the 75 empty. eek. can't have that. haha. I was thinking south/central american cichlids might be fun. but how many? which ones? I do not know much about them. i'd like a good variety, if possible. here's what I like.....

green terror, jack dempsey, blue acara, convicts, sevs, firemouths, bolivians....

will any of these go together? any others you think would work?

Well that mostly depends on if you wand larger more aggressive or calmer more community type.

How about,
Pair of Blue Acara
Pair of Rams or Apistos
18 Tetra
12 Cories
King Tiger pleco

I like angels...I might put one in the larger tank.

sharkdude: I like your idea....that way I could leave my cories and lace cat in, along with some tetras I have.

so when you say a pair....you mean male and female right? how do I sex them? and if they breed, will the fry survive? what about plants? can I leave some I have, or just take them all out. i'm not sure which cichlids are ok with them.....

Are you sure Blue Acaras will be ok with that stock? I just know my Blue Acara is quite territorial and can fight off a JD, Texas, Jewel and Cons. I'd be reluctant to try mine with the suggested stock.

Maybe mine is just forced to be aggressive as he's in with other aggresive fish

Personally I'd like to get a couple of EBJD's and a 75G would make a great home for them

Yes male and female is what I mean by a pair. Apistos are easy to sex, the male is prettier.

Acara info.

If you have tall bodied tetras they would be less inclined to eat them. Or you could get rainbow cichlids or curviceps instead.

If they pair off and breed you will have to watch for aggression but to my knowledge just getting a pair doesn't guarantee mating al occur.

Plants are a must with that setup. They love plants the more the better especially if you got rainbow cichlids.

rainbow cichlids....they sound pretty....i'll have to look them up.

I am planning on leaving most of the plants, but they are pretty hardy.

so I have two bolivian rams in there. I could leave them, or I could put them in the bigger tank...I guess depending on what I get.

Rams are compatible with Rainbow cichlids. You could have both in there. My gold ram and rainbow get along great. I even have two curviceps in there with no issues.

My Rainbow is quite doclile - but holds its own against the stock in my 150.

thanks =] rainbows seem like a good option. how many would I want? a pair?

so this is a rough idea....

2 bolivian rams (already have)
2 rainbow cics....?
2 flag cichlids
1 3 spot gourami (have, but he might be going to the new tank if he needs to)
1 angel (have, he can move too, if need be)
10 cories

too many? not enough?
