Hey everyone I am wondering if the bunnings osmocote root tabs are any good? I know some people have had success but would like more opinions. The tank is a 40 liter tank (10 gallons), so how many would I add ect.

Thanks!

You mean the ones labelled for water gardens? I haven’t tried them but the product says they can be used in ponds and fish tanks. Just follow directions on how many to use.

Also if I was using them for the first time I would test nitrates and phosphates in the days afterwards to make sure that they didn’t leach too much into the water, but that’s just me.

Are you sure that you need them?

Morning all,
I have used and still used Osmocote water garden root tabs. These were not sold in the US twelve months ago. Maybe now ?
image.jpgIn fact I put one in a terracotta pot that is in a 64 litre tank three days ago. Note the bubbles on the surface that don’t pop, like normally.

I have used them sparingly for two years without killing fish, cherry shrimp or plants.

I use one at a time in any tank bigger than 60 litres. I don’t have a need to use them in small tanks but would suggest half a cube in anything smaller than 60 litres.

You have a 10 gallon/37 litre tank Cooper2309 . Then use only half a cube no more than once a month is my suggestion.

edit .
The instructions do say you can use two in a 30 litre tank but I have not tried that.

I believe you can PeterFishKeepin?

I have used them and still do. My local club member who is a “special plant “freak and not much of a fish person uses them with success in her display tanks.

edit .
A special plant freak is someone who has very expensive plants that look fantastic and a few cheap fish that she doesn’t try to breed.

Ok, so if I cut them into small pieces and spread them around the tank, do I put them under plants or just near them?
I guess I'll just try using half for the first time

So what I've gathered is half a tab for every 10gal or so,.

In your case I would cut one in half, then cut I think more if you want to spread in tank, try your best to get it under the roots of the plants your trying to fertilise
