Bullying Angelfish

Hello all. We have had our angelfish for maybe 18 months & it has become quite the bully. With the death of my daughters favorite guppy - there is a request that I take the angelfish to the pet store.

Does anyone have ideas about alternative ways to decrease his/her aggression? Thanks

34 gallon community tank with moderate plastic plants & wood.
Angelfish, BNP, 1 male guppy, 1 honey gourami, 5 brilliant rasboras, 6 corys, mystery & nerite snails.

Not really. You can try rearranging the tank, but that won't necessarily work. Angels can be bullies, no way around that. A bigger tank might lessen the aggression though, or at least give the other fish more room to escape.

Angels often see guppies as snacks, if the fish is small enough to fit in its mouth (even just barely, I have had some stupid angels before that have tried to eat fish that wouldn't even fit in their mouth) the angels will try most often. I would try rearranging (take the angelfish out while you do this and then reintroduce it).

I am having such a hard time deciding to take our angel to the fish store. I wonder if I could find a cheap tank & set him up alone. Where I would put it - no idea. With what money - not sure. What size tank would be the minimum for a single angel? I would love to get Pickme a 40 gallon breeder, but don’t have floor space.

If you want the angel to be with anything a 29 is minimum, if it is just by itself i'd say a 20 tall would work for just the angel, dimensions are 1ft wide, 2 ft long, and ~17 inches tall.

I'd go with a 29 gal minimum for an angel by itself. An adult angel would be too cramped in a 20 gal high.
