Bubbles On The Surface Of The Water?

Hi.

2 weeks ago I ended up aquiring fish which the current owner was threating to flush as they didn't want them anymore. So my tank wasn't cycled but I took them in anyway.

I currently have a 10 gallon tank with 3x Zebra Danio (I know they need a bigger group but these were all the previous owner had due to some losses) and 4x Amano shrimp. During the two weeks i've used a liquid test kit almost daily and done water changes when needed. The last few days ammonia hasn't built up as fast so water changes have become every two days. Current parameters are Ammonia 0.25 Nitrate and Nitrite being 0.

The only difference in my tank maintainence/ fish care is I feed freeze dried blood worms yesterday as a treat. I woke up this morning to bubbles collecting in the sides of the tank. Some across the surface and a collection under the filter. I did a small water change thinking perhaps its protein film but it the bubble problem persists. The fish and shrimp are eating and behaving normally. So i'm just wondering if these bubbles are something to be concerned about or not?

Thanks

i've only used frozen blood worms and haven't had any problems with bubbles.

are they the foamy bubbles? you can use a ladle or large spoon and skI'm the surface, like skimming fat off the top of a pot of soup.

I have had bubbles like this in a newly set up aquarium. I think excess protein from the food could be the cause. Keep an eye on your water quality. Are the bubbles forming and disappearing or are they remaining as foam on the surface.

They're remaining on the surface. I'll try skimming the water and see if that helps resolve the issue.

Sounds like the best idea. In my case it stopped after a couple of days. If it is caused by proteins they could be in the food or in the fish waste. If you are doing water changes vacuum the substrate at the same time to remove waste.

I am a beginner and had the same problem. I had to do 3-4 partial water changes and use prime, and it finally went away.

Thank you for the advice everyone. During water changes i've been skimming the top and that has cleared up the bubbles problem.
