I bought a bubble anemone yesterday for my Marron Clown fish. I have a 90 gallon reef aquarium with 136 pound of live rock creating a reef wall against the back glass of the tank.
This morning the anemone was in front of one of the base rock and 30 minutes later it went behind the rock and can hardly see it. I tried moving it back to the front but it seemed to have set its foot on the rock.
The clown has not shown any interest; of course now that is behind the rock I don't expect her to pair up.
Is it normal for the anemone to hide behind the rock? I'm guessing that since it is new to the tank it is adjusting an looking for the perfect place.
Any expert advice? Thanks!
I want to add that my tank has a built in overflow system and the anemone is very close to the bottom slits. Some of the tentacles are being suck into it but the anemone seems to be doing well, as far as I can see, still footed at the back of the base rock with its front to the overflow. Do any of you know how strong the bottom part of the overflow sucks in water?
I turned the filter off and the tentacles seemed to be okay, but the anemone didn’t move from its place. Any suggestions other than taking my reef apart?
Well, the clown did pair up after all with the anemone--still hiding behind the rock. It opened up for her and they seem to be happy. I turned off the filter and tried to remove the anemone, but it contracted and it is stuck to the rock. It looks like the bottom slits of the overflow is not strong as the anemone has open up to allow the clown to tickel it.
I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if the anemone comes out--I hope so, where it is there is no light. At least the anemone is not alone anymore! :0)
