Brown algae

michaelsf90

Since swapping gravel for sand I have noticed brown algae growing on the plants. On some it rubs off but it always grows back. Some leaves on plants are that fragile it's hard to rub it off. It's getting unsightly and annoying. Every week I'm rubbing it off but I cant get it all. It's literally only growing on the plants. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of the stuff

I've been leaving the light on longer as I got told if there is more light it encourages green algae to grow instead. I have 2 zebra nerites who eat it off the java fern but the other plants they dont touch

Get some pest snails. Mine keep the diatoms away. They wont over populate as long as you dont overfeed.

I have 2 zebra nerites and a rabbit snail. Which snail would you suggest

ramshorn snails. They seem to be able to get to niches other snails can't..

Will they not breed like mad tho?

Dont overfeed and the population will stabilize.
