Brown algae question

I bought a 5 gallon with LED lights that are only in the very center of the hood. Recently the plants directly below the light are covered in brown fuzz that I am assuming is brown algae. My light is on from 6am till 10pm plus the tank is near indirect sunlight so I thought I am using too much light. But yet I was told too much light causes green algae. Well I'm confused then. Can someone explain to me the algae growth process and what I should do to stop the brown from growing? will it hurt my betta or plants at all?

If it's looking fuzzy I'd suspect hair algae. Can you grab a picture?

Definitely cut down your lighting. I'd aI'm for 6-8 hours if you have live plants, less if you don't.
