10 Gallon Tank Bronze Cory Fry Journal 2021

Hey, everyone! I thought people might find this interesting. I thought that I could do a journal/guide on raising Corydoras. Now that they are out of the woods, I thought I could explain how I got them to where they are. I’ll add more posts soon. Feel free to hang around for updates on these little guys! Here’s a picture of them now, a day shy of 3 weeks old. They look more like a lighter version of pepper Corys. There are four in there but this little guy decided to pose!
I’m also raising them in my fist planted aquarium! Here’s a full view of it! I am fighting algae right now, as this tank is a little shy of two weeks old after a full cycle. Plants seem to be doing okay, little worried about my Java ferns. They were gifted to me and were a little worse for wear! The tank just had a water change, I promise it is not dirty. I love the way the tannis from the 3 pieces of driftwood looks!

I have my Corydora breeding pair in there as well as the 4 Cory babies and 3 blue high fin platy fry.
It’s a 10 gallon tank.

Nice I see I’m not the only one with pepper looking bronze cory fry. I had mine spawn a few weeks ago as well and just this past week I found one survivor in my community aquarium but it looked like a pepper Cory so I was confused. So far I’ve only seen one in mine. It looks like yours and mine are about the same age. My corys spawned in the first week of December I think It was on the 5th.

Guide Post:

To get the best survival rate with the Corydora eggs, I recommend gently rolling the eggs between your finger. Hold a net under the surface you are removing them from and place them in a breeder box or a container with holes in it. I rigged an air stone to go under the box instead of inside of it so the eggs at the bottom would be stirred around by the air. I also added in some Stress Coat + and that kept any mold/fungus off them as well as shifting the water around 2-3 times a day with either my hand or a turkey baster. Once they hatched, I waited 2 days before offering them First Bites. I kept them on that food for a week before introducing some frozen baby brine shrimp. I made sure the air stone was still under the fry so they weren’t bombarded by the bubbles and rough water at the surface. I put a breeder net around the box and sucked up any escaped babies that made it into the net and put them back where they belonged. At two weeks old, I started to feed them some adult flakes as well as First Bites and baby brine shrimp. At two and a half weeks, I released them into my cycled 10g tank with tons of tannis, with their parents. At three and a half and four weeks, I broke up some algae wafters and crushed some adult flakes and give that to them once a day, with some baby brine shrimp. So far, so good. I haven’t had any problems with the parents and babies. I will keep you all updated on these fry and will let you know if I change anything with their routine.
I am working through some algae promblems so the babies are also getting access to a -ton of algae and vegetation! They are set on a balanced diet with a good amount of protein and vegetables. They eat anything and ate less picky than the parents! All seem healthy and dart around, swim, and rocket to the top! They also snuggle up next to each other and seem to socialize with the parents as well! :D So proud of these little guys!

I haven’t done anything special really other than just clipping leaves off with eggs on them to ensure they hatch. My tank is full with snails and they eat all the eggs. Then when they are maybe 2 to 3 days old after hatching I introduce them into the tank when the lights are off so they have a better chance at surviving and not being picked off as soon as I put them in. My last spawn out of maybe 10-20 one of them survived. I have about 30-40 eggs on some leaves in a container now with an air stone in it that just got laid yesterday or the day before yesterday. Well see if any make it out of this batch.

So for the past week, I've in introduced algae wafers and more adult foods. So far, so good. I have noticed one of my fry has the adult coloring, one is more than halfway there, and the other two are just starting. Davidh9054, are you seeing the same developments? Just curious! :)

They are all fat and happy and now really interacting with and copying their parents. They enjoy swimming and darting up to the surface as well as following their parents to where the good food is. My two adults will break up and algae wafer and the babies come a little closer and suck up the little particles like vacuums! They are a joy to watch! I've made sure to put in some sinking pellets with UF probiotics and extra vitamins to help them digest their food. I'd say they are super healthy and they are all around half and inch! They grow so fast! I'll see if I can snap a picture or two of them when I get home!

We are now at week 5!

Yea just about the one fry I have started to get the adult coloring and I see it out more often now. I don’t really see it going up the surface for air but it is scavenging non stop for food. As soon as I put food in the tank it is after the food instantly. I make sure to feed a couple different types of sinking pellets and algae wafer as well. I’ve only seen it eating the pellets though.

All my cories are very active and dart up for air. Water quality is as it should be so I'm not worried. I do see them out more and eating a ton as well! Glad you little guys are doing well! :)

Yea mine is super active now. Hopefully I’ll have some more within the next weeks. I have some eggs that I’m waiting on them to hatch now. The eggs are bout 3-4 days old the only thing I’m a little confused at is that the last time the eggs had hatched already by day 3, they look fertilized so I guess I’ll just wait to see.

Skip the algaewafers and use shrimppellets. Corys aren't algae-eaters and hardly get nutritional value from them (though they like them now and then)

I do mix it up with 100% shrimp catfish pellets as well as other pellets. They usually get those and some other protein-filled foods. Don't worry. I'm aware of this! :) They only get tiny pieces of an algae wafer along with their other food.

Hey, just wondering how are your fry coming along?

They are about a 1/3 the size of my parents! They are very active and happy, and will eat anything and everything I give them! So far, if I'm gendering correctly, looks like 3 females, 1 male! Which I'm very happy about! How are yours coming along? :)

About the same super active I still have yet to see any new fry though from the eggs that hatched about 2 weeks ago. They all seemed to be albino from that batch.

That's great! Good luck with all your babies! I noticed today that one of mine might be half-way through a growth spurt! :) Their second top fin is almost right against his dorsal fin, hope it rights itself! But still, super cute and active. I'll make sure not to breed him or her if they don't grow out of it. They seem happy and not in pain and just as active as the others!

Oh, also, I've trained my 30g and my 10g (with the babies) when I gently click my nails on the glass, it means dinner time. The babies are so smart and picked it up in a week! Whenever I tap on the glass, they all come out and that's how I make sure everyone is doing good and looking as they should. :) It was very easy to do and it helps keep track of where they are at developmentally and spot anything that could possibly be amiss (like diseases and injuries).

Last weekend, I lost one of the cories to a swim bladder issue. :( But my adults laid eggs again and today, I got a surprise in the breeder box! 4 new babies so far with a ton more eggs to go! Hopefully they will all be healthy and in a couple months, I'll be looking to find a lot of them new homes! Stay tuned! :D

We're up to 30+ fry in the breeder box! Also, I think my 3 "young adult" cories are male because they keep chasing their mom. I moved them 2 days ago to my 30 gallon tank and now they follow my female pepper cory. It's like little ducks following their mom! I belive they are uh... trying to breed with her even though I don't think they are of age. I'm curious to see if they grow out of this or if when they are of age, they'll get my 5-7 year old female pregnant. Should be interesting. I'll keep updating you all on my cories.
