Bristlenose Pleco With No Bristles?

I purchased a bristlenose pleco a little while ago, I'm wondering at what age bristles will begin to show? I know females tend to get very few so I might just have a female but even so I'm curious as to watch age they start to show normally. The one I have is about 1/2 to 1 inch long in length.

Mine's about 3 inches long and he still has pretty tiny spikes. I'd guess you'll probably start to notice some at 2.5 inches or so.

I had one that was about 3" that I thought was a female at about 3.5" it turned out to be a male. At 1" you still have a ways to go before sexing.
