Bristlenose Pleco With Betta

HI everyone,

My question for today is that I'm planning on getting an albino bristlenose pleco to be put into my 8 gallon with a single betta. The problem is not the betta because he is not very aggressive and has been put in with other fish and shrimps with out any trouble before so I just want to know if the pleco will attack or kill my betta. Don't worry about the pleco getting too big because I will be getting a 25 gallon in a few months for him.

8 gallon planted with 2 pieces of wood and 3 RCS and water changes twice a week.

Why do you want a pleco in a tank that small? They should be in a 30 gallon minimum, and I'm not sure a 25 would be able to house a bn for it's whole 5-20 year life. They do get ~5".
Some plecos do go after fish, most notably guppies, and bettas are similar in size to guppies, so I can't guarantee your betta will be safe.
If you're looking for an algae cleaner, pick up some nerite snails! They're fantastic at getting rid of the same soft algae that plecos eat.

I've never had a BN attack anything and as long as you get a small one and get the bigger tank soon I don't see a problem, but I've never had a betta before. The shrimp, not to sure about.

Then I shall be looking into a 35 gallon for him and a few other fishes but do you think it's not a good idea to have a baby BNP in an 8 gallon for a few months?

My boy Beast developed a taste for guppies. We were loosing them in the 37 gallon. Never found body parts. then one day I saw Beast swim by with a struggling guppy in his mouth.

He is 8-9 years old now and every bit of 6" long.

I have been suspecting that there have been fish loss that may have beast to blame but I can not prove it. He gets along fine with the ottos and corys.

Beast at 5 years old.

Beast is absolutely awesome!

But have you ever tried checking your filter? Because I have lost 1 or 2 guppies through my filter

It's not the worst thing to keep one in an 8 gallon for a few months, since they do grow slowly, but I personally don't like keeping other things with my bettas since they can't swim well. Their swimming pattern is the same as an injured fish (swI'm for a bit, drift down, swim for a bit, drift) so if anything was looking for a snack, they'd look at the betta.

Often cleaners get blamed for the crime. They are found on /near the body but they are only doing what we do know they do then huh ?
This happens more often in marine tanks with large cleanup crews..
Fish do eat fish some predate others scavenge

Hmm I understand, with my little guy I can't get him to stay still that's the only problem with him possibly because there isn't much filter flow and his fins aren't that big. Only time he stays still is when sleeping.

Well that's pretty good! I got mine and I thought he was a plakat, but I guess it was just the 8ppm ammonia in his little cup that burned off all his fins, because his are massive! Pretty much the same size as his body all the way around! It's not surprising he doesn't swim well... And I don't even have a filter on his tank, so there's no flow to drag him down.

OMG He IS a beast!
He got his name when he was still rather young. He chose a small bridge as his home (till he out grew it)
One day I saw him and call out to Sunhawk (wife) "Hey babe, come check out the beast under the bridge." The name stuck

Yeah, he is quite the boy.

After seeing that struggling guppy I moved him to an angel aquarium.

I do check my filters almost daily. I use pre filters on the canisters.

I wouldn't say plecos grow slowly. I think like many other fishes, they grow quite fast in their first year. Here's mine, and he's only about 8-9 months old. I have a before and after pic. When I got him, he could easily fit inside my thumbnail.

You're looking at the same fish. The second pic is just the deluxe version after he's grown some.

Yup I have another one, Benny. He is bigger than Beast (girth) and a cream color.

Yeah I know but I'm just saying in general, plecos are one of my favourite fish.

Never buy fish (even young/small) that don't fit in a tank cause you're planning to upgrade.

Upgrade first and then buy fish that fit in.

I have a 5" pleco with 3 African Dwarf frogs that are 1" long (they only grow to 3"). I also have 1 comet about 2", fancy gold fish (2) that are about 3" big. My pleco gets along fine with all of them. Right now they are in a 20 gal tank, going to an 80' tank soon with my 2 other larger plecos 12" each.

The frogs will be placed in a 40 gallon tank with comparable fish that aren't bottom feeders.

When I adopted these fish, the 12" pleco was in a 20 gal tank with a large beautiful fancy gold fish, no problems.

I hope this might help you.

Happy New year
