Do you want something that looks like a cave? I had success breeding plecos using this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KD6N5G3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It can water plants and can be used to breed plecos. Light washing will clean it fine. Good luck!

 

Is there any advantage or disadvantages with the different shapes?

 

I’d just do a pvc pipe buried in the ground on one end

 

Obtain a nice piece of driftwood and let the pleco dig a little cave under it.
