What fish do YOU breed?

Now, I've wanted to breed fish for a while, you know, establish a nice gene line, maybe learn a few things on fish breeding, you know.

But I want to know what fish could follow (or closely fit) these criteria.

Produce very little fry
Easy to care for
Lots of varieties and colours
Don't need lots of space
Relatively inexpensive

Now, let me to just quickly explain why I want these in a fish.

Produce very little fry- I want to be able to care for fry to the best of my abilities without being overrun by 300 baby fish in my hands, maybe around 20 fry would be nice? Maybe even less? I'd also have to do something with them eventually, and I have no idea what except for to maybe add them into a community tank.

Easy to care for- I don't want to be spending thousands of dollars on breeding (not say I wouldn't, but I'd prefer not to). A fish that's not picky, is very hardy and can be fun to care for without keeping me o edge 24/7. I've also only been in the hobby for around two years now, and I still consider myself a novice.

Lots of varieties and colour- This is because I like variety. I want to have a tank full of flashing colours and different looking fish, not just a tank that has a million of the same fish. Now, this can be easily overlooked, because colour is only something I'd like.

Doesn't need lots of space- This goes hand-in-hand with easy to care for. I don't have the money or space for anything more than 30g, maybe not even.

Relatively inexpensive- I just explained this, I don't have the money for super expensive fish. Enough said.

Now, if there are no fish meeting this, then feel free to tell me what you breed and why! I always want to know the pros and cons of owning a certain breed.

Seeya, and thanks!

You might want to look at Platies? 'Very cute fish! I have had Platies for about 2.5 years now, and they are very easy to care for and fairly resilient. They are live bearers. If you have at least one male and some females in a tank, you can more or less assume all the females are pregnant. Every so often, you will see a few tiny fish darting around the tank. Very few of these make it to adulthood (alas, the older fish cannibalize the babies). My tank population stayed fairly stable for over two years as the surviving babies replaced their dying elders. For some reason, my fish had an aberrant breeding season and about 20 females survived from the latest batch. I think one rogue male killed off all the baby boy fry in that "litter". So Platies might be good to start with. They're very easy to breed, and you can separate the fry from the older fish if you choose to do so.

I will certainly consider platies! I've always wanted to keep some.
