Breeding young guppies

So my guppies are a little over 2 months old now. I sexed them out and separated them around 1 month and a halfish in. I did this because I read that they can start breeding at a very early age.

My question is: At what age can I select some of these guppies to breed. I have a beautiful adult male I recently got. But the females look like they still got some growing to do.

Let them grow to full size 3" before breeding. Once they get pregnant most of their energy goes into breeding baby fry and they may not get full size ever

Thanks! This is really good advice, I appreciate it.
Also, my new male guppy looks like the yellow guppies on your profile pic!

Geez I must be doing it all wrong with my endler/guppies? At 3 months the males can breed at 4 months the females can breed.

I am working on a colour strain trying to get a partial colour and tail type. That is why I am breeding as soon as possible.
Your statement Whitewolf makes me wonder about what I am doing?

Endlers are nothing like fancy guppies that can grow to emormous sizes

You can breed a 4 month female... they will keep growing yes but to a lesser extent is the theory (just a theory im passing along not a set in stone rule )

I am hear to read and learn. I hope to learn a little every day?
There is little doubt that anything in the hobby is set in stone Whitewolf I am flexible in mind if not in body.

I don't agree with much of the information above. When females are bred, they go through a growth spurt.

I always separate sexes at about a month old. I sell my culls to an LFS. About two weeks before I take the culls in, I add males and females together to get size on the females. They grow like crazy, and end up much bigger than the fish that haven't been bred.

Guppies grow at different rates depending on the strain. They can drop fry at a couple months old, but that's too soon. You want them to be large enough to carry a decent sized brood, but they don't have to be full size. I pick female breeders starting at about five months.
