Breeding Wild Bettas?

Does anybody have experience breeding wild bubblenesting bettas? I am planning to get Betta mahachaiensis next month and intend to breed them. Any significant differences from breeding domesticated bettas?

I haven't personally bred them, but for mahachaI the main difference is their need for brackish water. Also the fact that the males and females can be left together indefinitely, and the fry can be raised alongside the parents, though not all choose to do this

OK! I have heard that hard freshwater also works

I have heard of two people having success breeding them in freshwater, but unfortunately I don't know the hardness of the water. Also, 10 gallons and up should work great for keeping the parents and fry in.

Unfortunately my apartment only allows five gallon tanks at maximum going to need to move the parents to a second tank once they are free swimming. This entire plan has also been postponed, alas...my Rivulus cylindraceus pair started fin nipping in my sister's community tank and they have been evicted to a 2 gallon bowl. Need to set up a proper tank for them and that takes away the moula for setting up the bettas.

I'm pretty sure betta albimarginata can be bred in pairs in a 5 gallon if you wanted to go that route. Alas, they aren't bubblenesters. There are several other smaller mouth brooders that fit in a tank that size. 10 gallon is generally the minimum for a pair of imbellis, as they still can be a bit aggressive, but if you want just a male, one can be kept in a 5 gallon.

Thanks. I wish I could have bigger tanks...

Fantastic news! No. 1, I was told my naughty Rivulus would work in a 2 gallon bowl (which I already have, thus saving me from having to spend money on them) and No. 2, I am going to set up a 10 gallon at my mother most likely for wild bettas (still considering a pair of paradise fish instead, but leaning towards the bettas). I am documenting my setup under the "aquarium builds" section of this site...don't hesitate to take a look and give your opinions on it. Thanks!

Nice, I'll go look now!
I think I'll be getting some imbellis soon as well, I'll probably make a thread about that too
