Breeding Red Neon Blue Eye Rainbowfish in a mini pond?

Is it possible to breed Pseudomugil Luminatus (Red Neon Blue Eye Rainbowfish) in a mini pond? I have roughly a 10/11g mini pond that has been ready for fish and was wondering if breeding in the pond is possible? I currently don't have a heater in as I was originally going to stock it with ricefish but I can add that. Here is a current pic of it.

They’ll breed, just be sure to add the heater and feed BBS to get them in good condition. Mine were breeding regularly in a 7.4gal cube. Just be sure to add more plants for the fry to hide among. Hornwort is ideal both for the fry and eggs to be laid on. Once fry are new-born guppy sized then the parents tend to ignore them.

P.S add some shrimp! They’ll breed too and should do well with the red eyed neons.

Would adding some rotala/cabomba/pearlweed/moss also work? I have a bunch of those plants that I need to trim from other tanks. I have not had luck with hornwort since it always sheds and dies on me.

How often are you feeding BBS?

Any floating clump of finer leafed plants will work. Spawn mops also work for egg laying. I was feeding once daily or every other day BBS along with their normal mixed micro pellets. Once you have fry you’ll want to feed BBS at least daily, if not twice daily. Micro worms are also good but BBS is always the best.

Perfect, thank you so much! I just ordered the heater. Ill get the pond ready first and then get the rainbows.

Hey RedOnion,

Ik im an Australian but i honestly know very little about Red Neon Blue Eye Rainbowfish but a cool fish you could keep if you don't want to add a heater would be the Mountain cloud minnow, the gold version is super cool!

How will they do without a lid? Are they jumpers?

Not sure about that but having most the surface covered by floating plants should help deter them from jumping.

I have another 10g planted tank that will soon be empty, I will keep the WCMM as an option, thank you for the suggestion!

I already have floaters in the pond, but I can definitely add some more into the tank. I also have a tiger lotus in the tank that is about to shoot up some leaves for coverage.
