Breeding Half Moon And Veil Tail

I have a successful spawn going on of a half moon and veiltail crossbreed . I know they all will be veiltails at first but I'm going to try to see if that will help bring out the spade tail gene and breed the ones with the best characteristics of the spade tail. Also in a next couple of weeks I'm breeding for half suns. If anyone is interested in the Betta fry. I would be willing to sell them but I have no experience selling online . I've always sold Bettas at lfs. So any experience would be much obliged for online selling and this open for anyone curious in my attempt for spade tails or anyone interested in half suns . I can send out my email and pictures of the parenting Bettas if anyone is interested

Me too, have you seen the adult half suns? they look beautiful IMO.

 

I believe Halfsuns are a crowntail/halfmoon mix not a veiltail/halfmoon. However I am very interested to see the finished result. Good luck!

Wow that's a beautiful fish.
now I'm really excited to see the results.
Here is a picture of my betta, in assuming that he's a fancy crown tail.

The half moon veiltail mix is so I can see if I can bring out a little bit of spade tail genes and keep breeding in that line and see if I can get spade tails . I have crowntail female I'm conditioning to spawn with the halfmoon

 

Most of the fry would probably never be show quality . I would have to work very hard with quite a few generations to arrive at show quality Bettas . Although I don't find show quality Bettas that pretty all the time anyways . I like the more random colors here and there of the mutt Bettas and so forth

Yes I have. I've goggled them quite a bit because I wanted to know what would happen if I bred my black hm and black orchid CT together.

I reeeeally want to and my LPS said he would sell them, but I'm still unsure.

I have a CT male, but I don't want to mix his color (blue and yellow butterfly) with a black orchid.

You're right, Blue and Yellow will definetly not mix with a black fish.

 

Why didn't you just start with spade tails? The resulting fins of what you have spawned will likely be deltas, not veils. If the fish do not have the spade tail gene isn't your experiment wasted?
I wish you luck on what you are trying to do though.

 

Like I said it's an experiment . Supposedly spade tails are in the veil tail gene . So I'm seeing if I can draw it out . Just experiment not sure if it will have 100 percent chance of working
