Breeding Box or net? and quick, she's due soon (i think)

Please help, One is for sure pregnant and I'm not sure when she's due, but it's probably with in the next week I would think from what I've read.

Do you guys prefer a breeding net or a box. If I end up with a net I am getting three (one for each female), but if I get a box I have found one that is one gallon in size and can easily be split up into different sections, if I have more than one female about to give birth. I have read that the box has holes large enough for the fry to get out of, but the net is obviously not as easy to peer into. any ideas? I know many of you will say nither, but i've decided on it, I just don't know which one.

How long are the fry going to be in it? If they will be in it for a while, then I would just get the biggest one you can find, whether it's a net or a box.

They won't be in it for more than two weeks. I am going to divide off a third of the tank for the fry once they get to a decent size, or more like once I am confident that they are old enough for me to sex properly so I can prevent more breedings an let my current females finish off their storage of seimen and have one half male tank, the other half female.

I would say the net then. It allows more water movement.

No problem! Just remember, it will be a while till you can sex them. I have about 30 platy fry in a 10 gallon tank right now that are about 2 months old and I still can't sex them.

Oh this should get interesting lol. They won.t become sexually mature before I can sex them right? And I've read rumors that if you do something to the water (like change yemp or something) you can get almost all of your fry to turn out as males, this sounds unlikely but I know it is true with crocodiles and other reptile (I know whloe different species) but could it be true??

You will be able to sex them before they become sexually mature.

I've heard that rumor, too. I heard that if you have a pregnant fish in warmer water, the fry will be mostly all of one sex. I can't remember which. I'll look into it a little more.

Edit: I couldn't find anything on the subject

I assume you are breeding mollies and platys from this conversation. Is that true?

Kind of. I am not breeding the two to make a hybrid, but as of right now I have had these fish for almost a week, and my Platy--Molly--was pregnant when I got her so I am just trying to get things set for her. She is getting bigger by the day but is not as big as I would suspect her to be when she has the fry. Also she has not even "squared" off yet, but she enjoy staying in the back of the tank near the heater and the filter and hidding in the plants so I'm just watching for now.

Keep a close eye on your water parameters. Did you cycle your new tank? The molly could be hiding for other reasons.

I see in your profile that you are not yet aware of the nitrogen cycle. This is critical to have a healthy tank. I suggest reading https://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm. And, ask all the questions you may need.

Good luck with your new tank.

Well I went to get the breeding box, but it was cheaply built and I was not happy with how it freaked Molly out. Luckily while I was there I also picked up a tank divider! Now she's almost acting like her old self again. And she can still see her tankmates. Plus tomorrow her tank mate from the pet store will join her in the maternity ward as we wait for both of them to have their fry. right now though her companion is my panda cory (Snape ) I thought I saw what I had assumed to be her having her fry, but it was a false alarm She was only pooping.... Oh well, her gravid spot is getting darker and her tummy is getting bigger by the day so it's only a matter of time!!!
