29 Gallon Tank Breeder/ QT tank

how do you maintain a breeder(fry)/ QT tank - if there is no fry and no new fish to QT?

empty the tank?
how about the filter with bacteria loaded media i.e fluval 406 canister? move to another aquarium for the meantime?

 

Mine is empty until needed.
I keep extra media in all my tanks.
Just transfer it over when you need it.

In the filters

I leave my quarantine tanks full and running even when there are no fish in it. I have snails in them, and I just continue to feed the tank. QT media stays in the QT filter. I used to move it all around, but not anymore.

 

that is exactly what I am doing right now. Tank with sand substrate is running with snails on it; every other day I put in some flakes/ pellets - usually disappears the day after.
