We just bought our familys very first fish tank for easter we cycled the tank and added our fish from the pet store...

We have no live plants yet. The only living things in their are our fish...
Last night my 5yr son was getting ready to help feed them and was talking about naming the new snail turbo...I asked what snail he pointed it out to me its about the size of the eraser side of a pencil...

My big giant question is how the heck did mr Turbo get in our tank??

We currently have:

1 balla shark
1 rainbow shark
1 red tail black shark
1 orange/black platy
2 silver/white tiped tetras
4 neon tetras
5 glass catfish

Very sadly our black lace angelfish died (he didnt look the healthiest at the store kinda shaggy, thought we could home him and fix him up) also had a pleco and sadly id died too we discoverd after the fact that it was very possible he didnt get enough food and starved as his stumic concaved when we took him out...we were so sad to have lost two of our very loved critters...the pleco surprized us of his death cus he really seemed he was always moving around the tank and seemed to be eating we even droped in the algae wafers in the evenings and he would eat them during the night as the bottom of the tank was supper clean each morning I didnt think he would need more than one wafter a day...

Well to get back on track, by question is how did we get a live snail in our tank anyone know??

Did you add a piece of driftwood from out of the tank at the petstore? Alison

Its also possible that he hitched a ride in the water from the store if you added that to your tank

Snails have a habit of hitching rides & sneaking into tanks, a few snails imo are a good part of the clean up crew, as long as you don't overfeed you shouldn't get a population explosion.
You say the tank is 30 gallons, unfortunately that isn't big enough for the red tail & rainbow sharks, they need at least 55 gallons & should be kept singly as they'll get aggressive towards each other.
Bala sharks are a schooling fish that should be kept in groups but as they can get well over a foot long they need an extremely large tank.
I would suggest you rehome all the sharks & maybe get a group of corys for the bottom level.

These are the Red Flags that are in your tank and that's not counting the Tetras as I don't know what Tetras they are:

Recommendations/Warnings/Suggestions/Notes:

Warning: Bala Shark is not recommended for your tank - it may eventually outgrow your tank space, potentially reaching up to 12 inches.
Warning: At least 5 x Bala Shark are recommended in a group.
Warning: Platy may become food for Bala Shark.
Warning: Neon Tetra may become food for Bala Shark.
Warning: Glass Catfish may become food for Bala Shark.
Note: Rainbow Shark may jump - lids are recommended.
Warning: Rainbow Shark is not recommended for your tank - it may eventually outgrow your tank space, potentially reaching up to 6 inches.
Warning: Rainbow Shark is not recommended to be with Red Tailed Black Shark - they will show high aggressions towards each other.
Warning: Neon Tetra may become food for Rainbow Shark.
Note: Red Tailed Black Shark may jump - lids are recommended.
Warning: Red Tailed Black Shark is not recommended to be with Rainbow Shark - they will show high aggressions towards each other.
Warning: Bala Shark is too aggressive to co-exist with Neon Tetra.
Warning: Rainbow Shark is too aggressive to co-exist with Neon Tetra.
Warning: Red Tailed Black Shark is too aggressive to co-exist with Neon Tetra.
Warning: At least 5 x Neon Tetra are recommended in a group.

So as you can see the snail is the least of your worries

Thanks. How come I see friends with similar aquariums n species of fish and tank size Without problems?? We recently got a 55gal tank put the rainbow shark in with tetras he really don't mind them at all they all eat like one school no chasing in their at all...also ive alwaysbeen told(weather its true or not I don't know) but was always told that fish grow to the size of their surroundings??? Balla sharu is now 4.5 inches and seems so calm and cool seems to let the smaller fish eat too then he moves in for some food maybe hes just flattening them up for latter who knows lol their all babies tho ...ive been doing lots of reading. I recently read that some of these fish coulf become aggressive in time ...

It seems that fish only grow to the size of the aquarium, because if a fish is in too small of an aquarium they send out a chemical that slows there growth way down and it is very unhealthy for them and they usually die sooner than they would normally due to the stunted growth and improper aqarium
