Brand new heater issue

Hey guys, so a few weeks back I got a brand new Marineland 29 gallon tank set, it came with everything I needed, and, for the most part things have been fantastic, but I noticed something. No matter what I set the dial to, the tank temperature stays constant at 80 degrees. I did notice as I was typing this that the water was a little below the minimum water line, so I pushed it down, but that's it. It heats the water, but the dial seemingly does nothing to change the temperature, anyone have any advice?

guess the dial is broke and its stuck on 80 so if that's a good temp I guess you can keep it. on the other hand its kinda scary having a heater with anything wrong with. it don't want it to get stuck on high as it can go. so I would return it if I could or take a loss and buy a new heater. I just bought a new aqueon pro heater and so far it works great.

I guess I'll stick with it now, most tropical fish can live in 80.

Contact Marland and have them send a replacement. Don't settle for a broken heater.

I would take it back. If you just got it, you should be able to exchange it. Better to be safe in case it gets stuck at a higher temp....

I would take it back. never know, it could decide to freak out more and boil the fish.

I agree I would try the store first, they might just give you a new heater (if they let you pick at all snag an aqueon pro, really nice heaters) if they give you any grief email marine land about it I bet the send you a new one.

Well, I glanced at my thermometer today and saw the temperature at like 82, I unplugged it. I think I'm going to email marineland.

Good morning,

What is the temperature of the room that the tank is in? If the room temperature is 80 then the tank water will be no less than 80 degrees too. Adding heat from tank lights may also increase the tank water temperature a few degrees.

If you feel the heater is malfunctioning, I would return it for a replacement. Marineland is very good with customer service and dealing with returns.
