how do i tell if my golden mystery snail is a girl or a boy?

Snails are hermaphroditic, so they’re always both.

I didn’t think mystery snails are hermaphrodites...

I know bladder and ramshorn snails are. I also know assassin snails are not, they are one single gender.

Mysteries are not hematopoietic neither are nirite snails. Though most are. As far as how to tell them apart I have no clue. Lol

The males have a male part (didn’t know certain words were bleeped out!) however it is pretty hard to tell apart from other parts like the siphon and if you hold the snail up the wrong way you might mistype the female as a male. I would look for diagrams online to compare, but your best bet is to watch and see if it lays eggs. Even if you only have one female she most likely already has sperm stored inside her from before you bought her.

If you lay the mystery snail on its back, it will reach out and try to right itself, giving you a look in its shell. You will be able to see it’s male part, but you have to know what to look for.
