How do I plant it? Quarantine? I got a top fin plant in a little plastic tube so I don't think I do? An Anubis Nana is what I got

Oh, and can reptile decor go into tanks? It was the only thing I found that didn't have sharp edges...

Tie it to a rock or driftwood.

It depends on what type of decor, what is it made of

Ah, I can't plant it in the gravel?

And I've no idea, it didn't say on the tag. How would I find out? I figure since most reptile tanks are moist it would be okay? I can maybe get a picture if that would help... Its like a cave and tree trunk combo

You can post a pic, it sounds like it will most likely be ok. And for the plant you can "plant" it on top of gravel. Put the roots in the gravel and the rhizome (horizontal piece the roots grow down from and the leaves grow up from) on top of the gravel.

Well be sure to show what you do, I can't wait to see it. Some people just don't understand this hobby. My dad didn't care for it when I was younger, but he never realized how passionate I am about it.

Very nice lol. I think it's safe.
Does it sound like plastic or ceramic or...

It sounded like plastic to me, but I've no idea? What if it is ceramic? Will it harm my betta?

No, I was just trying to figure out more info by the sound. It's probably a copolymer, which is safe for the little guys

Whew! Thank you Rex!!!

Why is everything for fish so sharp though? There wasn't one thing there that didn't have sharp edges all over it...

Btw how about ruber anemones? I bought a little one of those, a plant, a cave, and a red bridge lol. A total of like, 40-50 dollars? Haha... Haaaa.... I'm gonna be in so much trouble if they find out.

You're welcome, I won't tell'em if you don't lol
The rubber anemone should be fine, not quite natural lol but safe

I wonder if people just sand the outta everything they get. Because the edges felt like they would hurt any fish, not just a bettas...

I know lol. I just figured it was a kinda "waterbed" type thing for him. Its super soft XD

Yay!!!! He loves his cave
He was freaking out for a sec, cuz he didn't know where his vase was, but then he swam by the cave and was like.... Wait a minute! And now he likes it! Yay! I can tie plants and stuff to it to get a natural look. I'm super excited! I do believe my tank is full now though XD
Io wanna put more plants in after I get my sponge filter though. The currents waaay to strong for him... The little anemone iI got? Its being practically blown away... Sigh. Poor Steev. I guess that why he stays on the left side wayyyy more.

The Anubis has to go through a death phase though right? It has to switch from earth to air or something? I heard that somewhere. Or read it.

Anubis doesn't melt like some of the other plants. It should stay just as healthy as when you bought it. You could tie it to your cave> Alison

Hmmm... Maybe tie it to the stump? I would have to go and buy some cotton thread though.
My tank looks like a mishmash... Blergh. Oh well, I like it. Its super hard to find stuff for bettas. Pretty proud of my little log/cave!

Thanks aliray for the suggestion!!!

I like it too, especially the cave. As for the anubias like aliray said it should adjust just fine.

I wonder how its gonna stay on the log though? Will the roots just wrap around it to secure it?

Thanks Rex! You were a big part of this, so I appreciate it!

Aww thank you and you're very welcome. Yes in a way, It will attach itself via the roots, grabbing on as they grow

Whoa. I love your tank! I wish I had had the money to go all planted, but that one plant was like $10 at petsmart lol. I'm still gonna pack it full though. Do bettas like swimming without things to weave around, or do you think he would be fine with a heavily planted tank?

Thank you, I think it would enjoy a heavily planted tank. I know they are used in rice fields, but that's about all I know about bettas. Never even owned one.

Oh are wonderful! I would suggest trying to own one, that are so fun to watch and find out their personalities! Do you think my tank has enough stuff/cover in it now to buy some snails/shrimp? I think they would have tons of hiding places!

CowBoYReX
  • #32
Yes, they could go in there. It would look good with some plants along the back and left side, whenever you are able.

Cool beans
I think as soon as I can I'm going to order some more plants. What lowlife plants "melt"? I may not get those...

And will do! Eventually I'm gonna get a sponge filter, if I can find all the stupid parts... I can't have shrimp with the one I have now.

Cryptocoryne can melt, but they are very nice one of my favorites with a large variety and they don't always melt. Most of the time even if they do, if they are left alone they will grow back healthy.

Be careful with shrimp. Your Betta might eat/kill them. I can only have nerite snails with mine.
