Both GBR? (German Blue Rams)

The smaller one wasn't the one I wanted when I went and picked another GBR. The other one was significantly more pretty. But after she has such a hard time and already bagged it up, I just took it. I thought perhaps it would color up once it adjusted to my tank... But it hasn't. So I thought then 1 of 3 things.
1. It's a female.
2. It's not a GBR
3. Bad genetics
The thought that it might be just too young crossed my mind, but the other fish at the LFS was smaller and BRIGHTLY colored.
Any thoughts?

Welcome here. coralbandit is a big time ram guy. I don't have much experience with gbr's aside from pics but looks like the colored up one is a GBR where the more dull could may be a gold ram or a female stressed out. Wait for a more professional opinion. Good luck!!

Both males 99%.
If you can take the smaller back ,he may be a cross of another color or just stressed .
For female look for red belly and short analfin ..Look at both yours .The analfin reaches into the tail [as I see it ] .
A females analfin will clearly end before the tail starts .
#1 is a good looing male but you can see anip in his analfin ..Probably form other males ..
Hopefully you can find a female ..
I don't call the shots but I will say as I see it , it will probably not go well for #2 male ram ..

Lol. Ya, his fin nip was from a female convict. Although I didn't have a pair, she was very aggressive with her eggs. She is now in another tank.
I really appreciate you (and everyone else) taking time to reply.
Hopefully they will allow me to switch him out.
