Bored tetra?

I have 5 Black Skirt Tetras in a 10 gallon tank. The tank is mostly new, but is pretty stable. Most of them stick together except for one. It just swims around the heater and filter while pacing the glass. Is there something wrong with the tetra, or is it because of the water?

Hello and welcome! I could be wrong about this and I'm sure if I am someone more knowledgable than I will correct me but speaking from experience your school might be too small. I had the same set up and the exact same number of tetras. First few days went great but then they turned on the smallest tetra and pretty much chewed the back half of him off.

I'd say school and tank too small for this species.
Keeping these myself in a 40 gallon with a 3000l/ph pump. They love it !!

I agree with DoubleDutch. I have 6 of them in my 55 and they get along just fine. They do chase each other but I feel sure they are playing as there has been no true aggression from any of them. Just chasing, no fin nipping and they get along with all of their tank mates.

Agree way too small of a tank for a school of skirt tetras. I have 12 in a 75 gallon, and they use all 4 feet of the tank. A 20 long would provide them enough room to play a nice game of tag.

They need a bigger school in a bigger tank
