Heteroclita looks like ivy and rarely transitions to underwater life.

Is there a true form of heudelottI that stays shorter? I seen difformis but some say it just dies off

MinI African Water Fern, I have one (I don't have it under the best care so it is not happy, but they do grow as long as they aren't being nibbled on. my fish in the tank mine is in nibble on the leaves which are softer than java fern.), it stays shorter and bushier than the larger forms of heudolotii, I got mine off aquabid via a seller on ebay (they cross post occasionally and are fairly reasonable with pricing). They do not like high light, so shade them and don't bury the rhizome it grows from/
