So I just got 4 boesemanI rainbows yesterday for my 120 gallon they were fine before I went to bed but now they are chasing all my tetras and each other around the tank. Would this be aggression or mating I am not familiar with this fish but they look nice. The people at the fish store said I had 2 males and 2 females but I think I have 3 males 1 female. I don't know if this is normal behaviour or will it turn out bad

Rainbow fish don't usually show aggression to other fish as far as I've ever heard, although I don't have much personal experience with them. It may just be that they're uncomfortable in that small a school. It's best for them to be kept in groups of at least 6 to 8.

So it might be better for me to get at least 2 more then I just don't want to overstock my tank

Yeah, I'd say get 2 more and see how it goes. Another thing that may help is to have more females than males, which can help tone down aggression caused by breeding competition within the school.

I used to have a 36g tank with 3 BoesemanI Rainbows and 5 Oddessa Barbs and a Dwarf Gourami. I never had any aggression problems with the Rainbows. I would just keep an eye on them. They may calm down once they settle in.

They are a very vigorous fish I found.

I bred mine several times as they spawned every single morning in my 110 gallon tank..

If I were you I would have one male and three females.

The males can be very aggressive to each other.

They can get very large too with my dominant male reaching eight inches.

If their robust activity does not suit you I can thoroughly recommend the Congo Tetra as a superb large shoaling fish with which you can safely have several males.

I have a shoal of nine with four males and prefer this species but the colour of the Boeseman's Rainbow is one of the most dramatic in the hobby.

My experience has been very different. I have an all male tank of Rainbows and they are not at all aggressive. Too, I know of no Rainbow Fish that will grow to 8". I think the largest a BoesemanI will get is about 5 inches.
