Blue Throat Trigger Pair

Hi all,

I’m going to buy a male blue throat trigger for my 2.1m 200 gallon reef tank but my LFS has said I could get a pair (M&F) for a tank my size.

Has anyone kept a pair and can offer any advice or info on it.

Cheers

I’d trust your LFS. They seem like they are great and err on the side of caution from your comments. I think you could get a pair but do you want a pair?
Here’s some first hand accounts.

Blue throat trigger pair question

cheers for that, I was searching on that forum too. I’m on the fence because I love triggers and a pair would be great to have and watch but double the risk with my corals and inverts. I’ll also have to drop a differing fish off my ‘want’ list like a tang or butterfly.

I have read that having two is an awesome sight as they stick together and have such great personalities.

Oh, the other thing is the females are pretty bland coloured

I have plenty of time to make a decision as I have other fish to get first.

Do you think the triggers should be added before or after the tangs?

Just one more question, I clean my skimmer everyday. Does cleaning it everyday affect its effectiveness. Would it be better to clean every 2-3 days?

Cleaning every day is fine with the skimmer. You mean just cleaning the collection cup right?

as for the triggers I’d add them last IMO. That way you can monitor all other fish and aggression. Then if there’s an issue you know it’s the triggers.

The cup and the sides of the large cylinder. I don’t remove the skimmer from the sump or remove the pump. I clean the sides as the skimmer doesn’t always get up and above the cup.

That makes sense, the 4 fish or groups I’ll be keeping a close eye on are the:

Dwarf Angels
Tangs
Triggers
Royal Gramma

I doubt you’ll have an issue with the royal garamma in that size tank but you never know.
Cleaning the skimmer daily is fine. I see no issues with what you are doing.
