Welcome to FishLore!

In a 40 gallon I wouldn't add anymore cichlids. You want to give each cichlid enough room for its own territory. I would add another male for your lone female though. If you rehomed three of your Rams and just kept one pair I think you could get a pair of Apistos.

Definitely wouldn't add anymore, GBR get stressed really easy and your out of territorial areas at the size of tank especially when the fun starts at breeding time and you get to see why there called rams. I would just look at mid level or top level fish.

ok thank you both so much that was helpful I already know why the call them rams my one male that paired off already does not like me cleaning his side of the tank he rams my finger and nips at it lol not sure if anyone else seen this I think its cool. I have one last question since I have 5 should I add another gbr male. also went to my lps and she was able to order me electric blue rams which I want one or two at least since these ones are so much money I'm not going to get two right away but should I add the one electric blue ram and hope its a male to pair with the gbr female that's free or should I return one of my gbr since it is new to the tank please help thank you. should I mention that the tank is heavily planted and I have a lot of caves

Just because someone else had more in his tank than you doesn't mean it was successful and they were all peaceful. Cichlids often won't fight because they are too stressed. Personally I wouldn't get an EBR unless you know the breeder. These days EBRs are very weak because they have been inbred so much.

Totally agree, it probably doesn't tell you what success he has had with those numbers, but I guarantee you he has lost fish, or the fish are not showing right due to stress. I have a 63 Gallon tank with a pair of German Rams, Pair of Apistogramma Panduro, Pair of Red Breast Acara, 1 Male Bolivian Ram and other Tetra etc - I have a stunning long finned GBR in my 35 litre as he partner got stressed and died and now he is super aggressive to every other fish, so I'm going to have to relocate him to another tank to try and get him repaired with a different female, no easy task. I can't get my male Bolivian a partner either as this also results in territorial disputes. Anyone can put a ton of fish in a tank to look good for a few photos or videos, but keeping a happy tank over a sustained period is the hard bit, this separates good fish keepers with bad ones. I would stick to what you have for a while then try and pair up the odd one, but still at the size of tank you may have to remove it or it could upset the balance of already formed pairs.

Hey guys thanks again I was wrong in sexin one I think unless I have lesbos but it looks like to **** paired or one might be a male but the both look like **** to me but I woke up this morn and they were sleeping next to each other and been wit each othe all last night so I might have to get rid if one of my big males I can always sell him back and get some other stuff like plants

Give us a photo of each? From the side, if you can.

I would also agree with Borderless. Even if the guy has kept them that way for a while, some times it's just what I might call dumbasses' luck. Bet you my right arm those fish were not, as you might say, 'happy' that way.
