Blue Lobster Impulse Buy

Angels are a terrible idea as they have Feelers. Feelers are very sensitive and easy to grab and that will without a doubt hurt the fish and make it feel very uncomfortable.
I know you like the cray but to be honest it wasn't a good thing to impulse buy. Since you already have all those fish it'd probably be cheaper to re-home the cray then loose fish to it. This is just my opinion though. This is why it's never a good idea to impulse buy anything.

I like the cray a lot. so much I would’ve spent the money for his own 20 long but I'm completely out of outlets. I'm going to rehome the angel and the mollies, that was my plan but if I could find a way to keep him I was going to. the cray has been more aggressive then I was hoping and got a lot more fish then I was expecting before my neighbor is ready for them.

what about the texas and firemouth idea?

Can't you get a power strip to get more outlets? Plus, a lot of them are surge protectors too, so win win

Answer: Here is what we do around here with the crays.

Go get a big boiling pot, and a bag of live crays, potatoes, corn, and good Louisiana crayfish seasoning. Throw him in, and I bet he would taste just as good as the rest of them. lol

I got him his own 20 long and all he does all day is try to get out, he doesn’t even hide during the day anymore he just goes around rearranging plants and climbing them. should I get a small suction cup land area for him?

They do not need an area to climb above the water.

If he wanted out of the water he has several places already that he can do that with. I'm sure he'd love new things to explore, but mostly in the water.

I don't think there is anywhere in the tank he could climb and be out of the water, he defiantly tries tho.

I know they don't have middle fingers but it sure does look like it's right arm is doing that...

Make sure the tank lid is secure as they are escape artist. They do love to climb and don't need to be out of water. It'll probably just love climbing on the decor and plants. They are less likely to hide if there's fish because they have nothing to worry about especially when molting. If it stays active and runs about I'd say you have a a happy cray. Hiding is normal behavior when it has tank mates so don't worry.

I'm not sure when he did, but he recently molted for the first time in my care. and he looks funny, hes moving very slow like hes really weak and he keeps laying down onto his stomach, which ive never seen before. is he okay? I gave him a pellet but he doesn't want to eat it.

Is that his old shell inside the pvc pipe?
I don't know about this, but it would be reasonable to assume that it takes a lot out of him to shed the old shell.
If this is the case then he just needs to rest awhile to regain his strength after molting.

When Crayfish molt their new shell is really soft and they are delicate. They will often hide, not eat and some times act a little funny but it's because they are being cautious. Until their new shell hardens they don't feel safe especially with fish. Generally lasts 4-7 days.

Leave the she'll in its vital for the cray that's his first meal and it helps harden his new one, don't feed him for 4 or five days his body is now very soft and he will look for somewhere to hide for 2 days until his new one hardens, molting is a very stressful time for crayfish it takes a lot out of them, it can be a fine line between life and death that's how stressful it is,

okay ill leave the shell, thanks. he hasn’t shown any interest in it yet, he pushed it out of his pipe. it won't mess with the water quality right?

he has been hiding but I noticed he’s sorta red now. will his blue coloring come back?

It's now only a she'll and will not alter your water in any way there's no flesh in there to rot but he needs it, colour should come back, when they moult the she'll splits at the top just behind the carapace that then comes over the head and that's the tricky bit if it gets stuck half way the cray will drown he then shakes the rear part off making one piece with a split on the top,as he as done it in one go shows the water quality it rite for him

That's a brilliant photo and his colour looks good
he will devour all he plants in the tank so if you want to keep any ide take them out now, with the plants he's eating ide look at every other day with the pellets, mine are 5inches long red claw cray and get one wafer a day and one day a week no food, I also substitute with veg, it's very easy to over feed, mine decided to rearrange the tank I have no substrate in the middle theyve pulled it up on both sides, it's so comical to watch, has he eaten the old shell?

his blue color came back a couple days after the molt. he ate all of the shell besides the claws. oh okay so they do eat wafers? ill incorporate those once all the plants in the tank are gone.
hes ridiculous, he still gets all defensive and puts his claws up in the air when I come near the tank. wonder if he’ll ever figure out I mean food like the fish do.

Mine do exactly the same. Next time you notice him going quiet, hiding, and refusing food you know he's getting ready to moult so stop all food, the other thing you'll see is him pushing and scraping his she'll what he's doing there is loosening his she'll in readiness to moult you may have to put more and bigger hiding places in as he grows, iam hoping my female comes shortly so I can start breeding

As a rule the measurement is it body they seem to add the claws on after,so looking at yours he's just over 2inches so you've at least another 1. 1/2
Inches to go, as he gets bigger the moult will become less frequent. I think that species is 3 to 4 inches body length. Size for size I thing he's already outgrown his pipe
His colour is stunning

Hopefully he never thinks you mean food in THAT way!
