After covering my tank up, it had helped a little with the red slime algaes but was no solution. As a result, I had went ahead and purchased blue life red slime control. Followed the directions, waited, and half of the red slime turned brown as if it were dying. However, brown and green algae started to appear all over the glass and ONLY the glass. What is going on?

Either high nitrates or high phosphate or not enough circulation in tank. Are you using R/O or D/I water for your tank? How long has this tank been setup?

My 12gallon aquapod nano tank with k2 viper mh lights has been running for 19 months now. I get my water from the local fish store.

Do you use phosphate sponge? R/O water has some phosphates in the water which will contribute to unwanted algeas.

No I do not use a phosphate sponge and I do get R/O water(not RO/DI water) from the local fish store. I am assuming that I need a phosphate remover??

Yes you do! I will expain why. R/O filters do not purely remove phosphates or silicates from the filtered process they some what do but not completely. I use Kent Marine brand Phosphate sponge, Use a sock and use about 1/8 to 1/4 cup depending on size of tank you must rinse media with R/O water only about three times is all it takes use for three days then discard and reload and leave in the tank for up to 3 weeks. the first treatment removes phosphates and the second treatment removes silicates and removes both during top offs. Ohh sorry I just looked at post you have a 12 gallon tank so use 1/8 of a cup doesn't have to be exact just approximately. Also do you use carbon if so how and when?

Ok thank you for the info. I will try it. And I do use carbon and change approximately every month.

Okay as for the carbon. See a lot of people think that by leaving carbon in there tanks all the time will help tremendously this is not true. I have studied this for along time and I will tell you this. When you load the sock up with carbon and put it in the water it will do it's job in 24 hours or up to three days after that it has no benefit at all the activated carbon is full after that time period and does nothing more. I use carbon maybe once ever month the carbon will pull out toxins etc from the water but all it really does is polishes the water too crystal clear. Also if you use it in a reef then you are not letting the corals etc. a chance to feed on the water so that is why I hardly ever use carbon in my tanks I don.t even use filter floss just phosphate absorbers that is all I run my sumps free and clear to feed the live rock that I have under the tank.
