Blue legged hermits eating my caulerpa papasloides

Well I wanted to know what I should do if I want to keep nice looking plants in my reef so they can grow because my hermits are eating and mangling up my caulerpa that I just bought and its driving me nuts. Should I maybe clip the plants up high?

I would clip them in an area that the crabs cannot get to them such as on the glass away from rock work etc. maybe use a feeding clip with a suction cup.

Well I might just have to get me another plant because this one is just trimmed down to the stems where they ate off of it and only 2-3 remain but they don't eat the leaves so they get blown everywhere it would help if they ate the leaves but they dont.

If you get more then they will eat the new as well, so what is the plan so that they don't?

well if I do get another plant then I'll just have to clip it like you said but will my current one grow even if its down to the stems it has like one or two small leaves still on it?

Is this plant rooted to the rock, if so it may have a chance to come back if like you said it still has a few leaves.

Well no its not rooted to the rock should I do that? Just put it in between somewhere?

So they were clippings, chances are that the calerpa was already dieing and when that happens the plant drops the leaves.

Oh great well maybe I will just have to take out what's left of the stems and just put in a new one.

I would wait for about 6 month's then try again it could be because the tank is not fully established.

well I'll just get another plant but my tank is close to 6 months old already so i'd say its established and coralline algae growing nicely to. I also made a decision not to buy any more crabs either if i'm gonna have plants in there.
