Blue-green algae/Cyanobacteria harmful to humans?

barrelsz

I was cleaning up my first outbreak of what appears to be cyanobacteria/blue-green algae (very thick green/black sheets across the tank lid/decorations following some time away...) when I was wondering if the stuff was harmful. I know that when cyanobacteria are found in lakes or ponds, they generally close them to swimmers due to potential [sometimes severe] toxicity. Just wanted to see if anyone knew if that same potential for harmful effects was present in the BGA in a home aquarium. It certainly seems to have been toxic for some (thankfully not all) of my fish :\ ...
