Blue Gourami compatible with blue dwarf Gourami ?

From start I had a community tank with a pair of blue dwarf gouramis. They got along well.

Then the male died and the remaining female blue dwarf gourami was without partner for a while.
I recently bought another male, but did a huge mistake (?), I bought a normal blue gourami male.

Will this pair be able to co-exist ? So far they seem OK, but the female blue dwarf gourami sometimes nipple and chase after the male blue gourami.

Can they breed ? That is - can a normal blue gourami male produce offspring with a dwarf blue gourami female ?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Best regards TK

As far as I know they can't interbreed and at some point as they mature , they will most likely fight. Dwarf gourami don't play nice with other gourami. Welcome to the forum and glad you joined us. What other fish are in there and how big is your tank? Alison

HI !
Thanks a lot !
Well..............then that last purchase surely was a mistake.
I must somehow get rid of one of them - or get a separate tank. I'm looking at a 30 gal. tank at the moment to replace the one I have.

The tank they are in now are about 15 gal.

It's a small community tank with some Yoyo loaches, a handful of small platys and two Crossocheilus oblongus algae eaters.

Thanks so far.
Best regards T.K

Welcome to Fishlore!

Unfortunately you have some stocking issues, if you'd like to discuss them

Could you take the blue one back or is that the one that you like better? Do you have a favorite of the 2. A 30 gallon would be a nice upgrade. Alison

Than get rid of the normal blue.
Those are defintely too big for a 15 and maybe even for a 30 in my opinion.

Welcome to fishlore!
They will definitely start fighting sooner or later in that size tank, unfortunately, as it's far too small for blue gouramis, which need a 40 gallon minimum.

Thanks You guys.

I bought a 30 gall. tank yesterday which I will put in use for the blue gourami, while also keeping the small 15 gal. tank for the other fish at the moment.

I bought this model (Juwel Lido 120) since the price was good;

It holds 31 gallon. I think I will try to move the blue gourami over to this setting and see how that works out. I would like to get a rectangular style tank in the 60 gallon-range later. But then I need to move a lot of furniture and plan the tank postition with greater detail.

Best regards TK

HI ! Thanks – yes I can only agree. If room and money were no problems, then there is no telling in how many tanks I would like to get……

I bought the recent 31 gall. aquarium really cheap from a (furniture) company who had it as a display piece at first, but then put it away for quite a long time.
For 80 bucks I got the tank, the storage piece underneath, a nice looking Eheim-pump with a huge internal filter (seems to steal a lot of swimming space from the tank …..) and two or three heaters (haven´t checked all the accessories yet) and a load of interior details for the tank.
Before I move over the gourami in the tank I will check the silicone sealing carefully. When I picked up the tank yesterday it seemed like a tiny area on the outside silicone is starting to release itself from the glass – so I’ll be out again soon shopping for black silicone .

I will try to look around for suggestions here on the forum for a good interior.
Thanks so far.
TK.
