update...the white eggs turned out to be fertilized after all! My last post indicated that they were unfertilized because everything I had read states that white eggs were unfertilized and orange eggs were dead eggs. And with all my other dwarf crays, including the first batch of blue babies, they started out as black eggs.

Well, the white eggs hatched and the babies were born over the weekend!! So now I have 2 week old blue babies and newborn blue babies.

The other funny part is that the mom that failed 3 times....I put her in with a different male and she ended up with a belly full of white eggs. I would have thought it was another failure, but I have confirmed that white eggs are ALSO viable eggs. They don't have to be black. So fa,r the cajun dwarfs and the orange dwarfs have had ONLY black eggs. It is the blue ones that have had white eggs. (but not every time!!)

Anyway, just like clockwork, the mom molted immediately after having her babies.

I am just very surprised that the white eggs ended up being just as viable as the black ones. I hope mommy #2 can have her first successful batch of babies this time! I don't want her eggs dying and turning orange again!

That's awesome! I finally hatched my first clutch of mystery snail eggs after several failed clutches! Unfortunately my 2 blue crays dissapeared but the 2 cpo's are alive and healthy.

OH NO! They disappeared? How long have they been "missing"? If it has only been a few days they could be molting and hiding....That is a bummer!!

I'm sorry to hear that they are missing, but I am glad the CPOs are doing well! My female CPO died during her last pregnancy. It was very sad. She was missing a pincher and two legs....so I think she had too much trouble caring for the eggs and she died. I don't know. It came out of no where!! I was bummed! So it turns out after living peacefully together for quite a while, the male ended up hurting the female. I guess they aren't always the most peaceful and even when they seem to be...it can change over time. I removed the male as soon as I noticed mom was missing apendages. But she died while caring for her eggs. Poor mommy. :-(

So do you think there is ANY chance your blue ones are still in there somewhere? How long has it been?

Oh and congrats on the snails success!!!!

They can't just disappear! Do you think they escaped??? You would have found their bodies if they had died in there....don't you think???

Awww bummer!

I think the cpo's ate them or the mystery snail. I would have found them if they escaped.

I suppose if they were eaten you wouldn't see them. Were they really small enough that the CPOs or snail could KILL them? Or do you think they died and were eaten because they were dead or sick?

either way....I can tell you for sure you most likely would NOT find them if they escaped. I had my BIG blue cray escape a couple weeks ago and I have still never found her. It was a real heartbreaker. SO I think a dwarf cray that small would be virtually impossible to find. Crayfish can be really fast on the ground! So they can get out of sight pretty quickly.

Maybe they got out but I don't see why they would and not the cpo's. And yes small enough for cpo's to kill the snail wouldn't have killed but would have eaten if they were dead
