Blue Babies Everywhere

HI Everyone--
I recently had about 5 blue mamas give birth at the same time so I have baby shrimp everywhere (yay!)
I've let them grow out now and are probably a month old. It looks like I've got some mixed colors though and wondering if I should cull these tanks to have a blue rilI tank and a blue (only) tank.

Here's what the babies look like-- can you confirm that some of these are in fact rilis? or do the black marks mean nothing?

(the pink stuff is just food-- FYI) -- didn't have a dish handy.

I would like to, if only to make more room. I've probably got close to 100- 150 at this point. VERY rewarding hobby!

Yes rillI pattern and your next generation I'll bet light blue dreams, velvets, carbon black rilli, carbon blue rillI and even black rose(black diamond / blue diamond). Depending on the strain they came from naturally but, seems pretty common break out. I just made 4 tanks to separate the blue lines myself a few weeks ago so I am in early tests as well. That darker one in pic6 getting the black rillI traits and when it breeds with a more of the blue rillI will get carbon blue rillI and black rose, or at least that's my observations.
I am on about generation 8-10 with the blue line thus far and I like the blue carbon rillI and black diamonds myself and all of which started from blue's. However, so many names and no consensus on names and that's just what I call them or have seen on charts.
Pic 4 all rilli's except the blue dream top left. I see the greenie yellow coming out as well in the back two which will change as they grow but, shows those two reverting back into the left portion of breeding chart or the red side of the chart and if allowed to breed will go green, yellow.clear and or too browns.

I forgot about you and you blues, you will be the one to call on soon especially when your colours start, my black rose came from the other side of chocolates

These are two more girls I just pulled out of the upstairs tank of rillis. In real life they are a very deep blue and cannot see through them. In the camera shows blackish. I am finding the black diamond or black rose genes one of my predominant so far. I am in the blue carbon rillI line up and trying to get a batch of velvets or royal blueish.
For OP I believe will find similar results with a core of blue carbon rillis like yours. I like them as many patterns will come from your batch and you can choose which traits you like. My wife has some in the upstairs tank I pick out for her from the other tanks that are all unique with waves like a picasso I really like them. You have some nice shrimps there.

I admit to finding neocaridina genetics confusing. When breeding, do you just see what you get and remove the ones you don’t want? I mean, I see the chart up there; I just don’t get how to apply it in practice.
LHanna61, keep me in mind if you start selling them; I think I’m in the same part of the world as you, so shipping wouldn’t necessarily be involved. I just ordered orange shrimp and am looking forward to their hopefully breeding as successfully as yours have done.

That is all VERY fascinating actually. I find this chart incredibly confusing though, I've tried to look at it and digest it multiple times.
To me the blue diamond here looks like it has black on the head and tale so I would have called that a blue rilI myself. Either way, I have noticed some of the color changes in my colony that you mentioned (I definitely saw one that is starting to look like a black rose; I didn't even know that was possible).

This is my first breeding project and it is all VERY exciting to learn all of this. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insight

same-- very confusing, I do believe that the trick is to just keep culling (being careful not to over-cull) in order to get what you'd like but I'm sure the two gentlemen richie.p and Jack B Nimble would correct that.
Ideally, I'd like to setup a blue rilI tank and a blue dream tank and then everything else would go into a cull tub/tank but I'm not totally there yet.
Fishcat absolutely let me know if you want some shrimp babies! Would be great to meet someone in the hobby on "this part of the world"-- we have to stick together haha

It is very fascinating to me as well and what has caused me too start the 3 new tanks recently. If you every pull out the colors you like into another tank I suggest the diy corner matten filters that I feel liok great and you can't argue a 1.5 years between cleaning or longer lol. I am in the process of refining the blues and discovering more and more as it's easier with the now 6 tanks dedicated to old blue ! The blue diamond or black diamond I agree is really a dark rillI but I believe rillI is used for when there is a clear white line between the colors. I have one mother that has very dark blue body and literally a diamond on her head and I believe that was the intention in the name but who knows. Since there is no governing body any names are fair game in neocardina. I find the weird part was at the begging of my venture my blue colony was popping out orange rillis which tells me the mad scientist I got my original few from was doing a lot of experimenting. Which also caused me to get a tank just for orange rillis which now generations later I don't see anymore from my blue line tanks. I find the draw for me to this blue line is the ability to create really whatever you want in regards to specific traits. I just wish breeders shared their formulas and not kept as trade secrets or something.

LHanna61, absolutely! After I get my orange guys settled, next project is a dedicated shrimp tank, and I’d love to have some of your blues for it!

Six tanks! That's a lot-- I'm so jealous! I'm about to start a tank for crystal blacks, just to get some caridina experience. I'm obsessed with the pintos and the galaxy types but they're SO expensive. Hopefully if I can create a good home for the crystals then I can make my way to the more expensive types

Here's an update of one shrimp I had never seen in my tank until today. Absolutely love the blue lines!
