Blood Parrots acting skittish

I have had quite a few BPs but my two I have now have recently become super skiddish. I've never had this problem before with my other pair I had and I bought two for my nephew and his don't act this way either I'm not sure what's going on with them. Is this normal? Are anyone else's BPs like this?

HI Shannonb, I don't own blood parrots, but do know they can be rather shy and take a while to acclimate to their enviroment. Have you added or changed anything in their tank ? Any changes in tank temperature or tank parameters? Best of luck.

Nope no changes. I don't mess with them expect to clean the tank. They even spawn all the time. But if I move too quickly in front if the tank like bending over to get in the cabinet they freak out and swim into the glass or hide it's so strange. And they have three big clay pots to hide in so it's not from a lack of nooks and crannys. They didn't start out this shy

Hi! Is their tank in a high traffic area. I've never had Blood Parrots but did find that to be an issue with my Severum when I first got them. It made a really big difference as they are shy fish too☺

Not really they're in the corner of my room. Lol it's almost like they can't see me that well and when they can they are fine if that makes any sense. If I move slow or I just sit in the chair and close to the tank they come up and follows hands they come up when they know they're getting food. It's like they can't see very well unless I'm right against it. Lol if that makes sense ?

Could it be that they do this especially when the tank is lit and the room is pretty dark? I think mine have more problems seeing I'm getting close to their tank when my room is dimly lit which makes them dart away more often.
During the day they are much better with me walking towards the tank.

Good morning,

The behavior you've described sounds normal to me. Give them time and as long as they are in good health, they will overcome the shyness.

Years ago, when I started with Bloody Parrots, they were shy, acclimated and lost the shyness, added a terracotta pot and they went into hiding for another few weeks. Some members of this species can be shy for a very long time.
