What are your parameters? Anything of significance happen before he died? Like new live stock, water change, new food?

Just checked it

Ph 8.1
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5 (if that)

Nothing new. We did a water change two weeks ago, had another planned for this weekend.
I saw him today at around four thirty he was fine, swimming, doing his normal thing. And then at 10:30 he darted out of the rocks and swam straight to the top of the tank and started throwing himself into the side of it. Then he fell to the bottom and just laid there and he was breathing really really hard. My boyfriend transfered him to our QT tank thinking maybe something in the tank was freaking him out. Before we moved him we realized his stomach was HUGE and kept turning over on his back/side. Within thirty minutes he was dead.
I don't think I have ever cried so hard for a fish. He was my first one, he's survived a lot. =[
I just wish I knew what happened to him.

Yeah, it can be tough to lose a fish after you get attached to them. Maybe he got too much sand in his digestive system and became blocked or impacted? I've heard of epsom salt dips for treating situations like this or maybe even feeding peas if fish get impacted. What else do you have in the tank?

I have a cleaner shrimp a clown fish a yellow tail damsel and a hoover wrasse. oh and a flame angel. They have all been living harmoniously for quite some time now. it was just so sudden and fast we had no idea what to do. We had such bad luck in the beginning but thins have been so great in our tank for months now.
