Blasting media grain size

I am thinking about getting blasting sand for my new tank and I was wondering what grain size people use with sand substrates. I have the option of getting 20-40, 40-60, or 60+. I was thinking if I got the smallest size it might compact too easily.
Thanks

Thanks. What brand of Pfs did you get? I can't decide if I want light or dark substrate so I am torn between Pfs and black diamond blasting media.

I really couldnt tell you.

I bought mine at a fish store. I would look at fish stores. Also just make sure the brand is aquarium safe.

I deal with 20-40 grain sand almost every day at work and am going to be using some for my 55 gallon. I think it looks great and is the perfect size.

I wouldn't recommend the 60+, that's really fine. I personally think 40-60 is pushing it as well.

I would go with the Black Diamond sand. I had pool filter sand in all my tanks and withing a couple months, it all starts to look dirty and lose it's brightness. I just switched 2 tanks over to black diamond and I plan on doing it with all the tank.

Not only does it look better, IMO, but it definitely makes the fish more colorful. Within a week of putting it in, I noticed color improvement in all the fish.

Cool I have read so many mixed reviews of black diamond that it was starting to scare me away from it but I really want a dark substrate so that is what I will go with. Now I just have to wait for the tank to be delivered.

Dark substrate will really show your fish's colors well.

My only question is. It it easy to see poop on the sandy

It's about the same as if you have white sand. Stuff shows up the same.
