Black yellow tailed chromis?

Ok...about six months ago, my ex boyfriend bought me a fish from a reputable fish dealer. When we bought it, the guy called it a yellow tailed BLUE damsel. After a few days, I began questioning after seeing pictures of the yellow tailed blue damsel. Mine appeared a dark purple almost black color with a brilliant yellow tail with like extensions to the tail fin. I looked everwhere and could night find a picture of one that looked even similar to my fish. I have asked around and they suggested a BLACK yellow tail damsel. could that be what I have. He is about two inches long, maybe a little smaller and he is a bully to my tomato clown and used to be to my snowflake eel. I don't know what to consider him...I think he's a black yellow tail, but I'm not 100% ???

I believe some of the damselsfishes can turn darker as they get older. Not sure about the Yellowtail Blue Damsel turning colors, but do a google search on the Behns Damselfish (Neoglyphidodon nigroris).

whoa! I have a juvinile Yellow tail damsel and it don't look nothin like that! But, a lot of fish change colours when they change from juvinile to adult.
My damsel is a dark blue but not anything like that! I aggree with Mike though, it could be because it's old. ;D

 

Mine goes very very dark when the water is too salty and I know I have to do a water change when he's darker.

 

What if you got a whole entire new species of damsel! lol
or a geneticly modified one. ???

 

Yesterday at my lfs I saw some black damsels and some black and gold damsels on sale - I think yours is the black one because they black and gold had gold stripes on the fuins rather than a yellow tail ;D

 

what if somehow a yellow tailed and a domino damsel cross breeded?
