Black thread like growth from top of plant ?

I have what I believe to be some sort of Java fern in my daughters 10 gallon tank. It has developed black "hairy" looking growth from the ends of it's leaves. On some of the leaves it is as long as 3 to 4 inches.

Just wondering what this is... It does not appear to be bothering the plant or the tanks inhabitants.

Any advice is appreciated... ;D

You should see tiny little leaves pretty soon. If you leave them long enough they will drop off and float around or you can wait until they get about an inch long and clip them off either way works fine.
