Black phantoms body is turning white

NinaMarina

Ok so I have a 92L tank and I have various fish in there, they're all communal fish such as neon tetras and Corydora. There's an old man who lives a few doors away and he had 4 convict cichlids, he came to me and said he will either flush them or give them to me so very very reluctantly I took them. I didn't have a seperate tank and thought I have to take them till I found a new owner for them. It didn't work out so I took all the tank decorations out and caught the convicts, after putting everything back and escorting the convicts to their new owner I noticed one of my very beloved black phantoms body is turning white which has never happened before and has happened all of a sudden. I don't know what to do and I can't find anything that gives me even any shred of help.

That is definitely Columnaris. Be a good idea to remove the infected fish asap and euthanize it. Recovery is very unlikely & if action is not quickly taken there is a good possibility the disease will spread.
The white patch is dead tissue the bacteria destroyed.

I totally belive you I just wan to be sure it happened within a matter of minutes if your 100% sure then I will
Also if I was to euthanize it how would I do that?? I don't think I have it in me

It's not slimy or fluffy it's literally like his body has turned white. It happened in a matter of 10 minutes. Should I seperate him? What should I do? I'm very stressed but not as stressed as he is

Columnaris symptoms can manifest quickly in a matter of days. That unfortunately does look to be what it is.
The best course of action is definitely to isolate the fish to try and prevent any spread. You may still have to treat the main tank for the disease in case it already infected any other fish, but isolation is really the best preventative measure you can do right now.
If you don't have the heart to euthanize (it can definitely be hard, and its more difficult for fish to do painlessly) there is still some treatments you can try. This is just treatment information from the site:
Columnaris Symptoms And Treatment

In the future, always always quarantine any new fish you have! Especially if you get them from someone who may have questionable tank conditions. It may be expensive to set up another quarantine tank, but it will save you in the long run by keeping your other fish safe and not requiring you to have to buy any medicines.
And, if none of the treatment works and you notice him gasping for air laying at the bottom or his condition getting worse in any other way, it may be necessary to euthanize. Here is a link to another post on this site that outlines a few more humane methods, and what not to do: Humane method of Euthanasia for sick fish

Thank you for that I've looked at it and removed him from the rest of the fish and I've ordered some treatment I do appreciate this. I couldn't quarantine the convicts because the guy sprung it on me and I didn't know what to do it was so sudden. I do appreciate this tho thank you
